Dr. Alan Journet earned his undergraduate degrees in botany and zoology at the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire (Cardiff) University of Wales, Glamorganshire, U.K. and his postgraduate degree in entomology at McGill University in Canada. For the past 24-plus years he has been on the staff of Southeast Missouri State University where he currently teaches biology and environmental science. He has conducted research in science education, ecological restoration of floodplain hardwood forests at Meramec State Park near Sullivan, MO, and ecological management of an old growth bottomland and swamp forest Natural Area at Big Oak Tree State Park in Mississippi County in the Missouri Bootheel. He is active in the Ozark Chapter of the Sierra Club, the Missouri Community Forestry Council - Southeast Region and was vice-president of the Missouri Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology.
