The reason that embryonic stem cell research has accomplished so little is that people are continuously confusing themselves with moral questions like, "is it wrong to kill a potential human being". If we finally realized that this unicellular embryo is less morally valuable than a piece of spinach, we could finally do the kind of research that would cure serious problems. Adult stem cells will never cure the problems that embryonic stem cells could because adult stem cells are more limited in what they can differentiate into than embryonic stem cells, which are much easier to work with and are a much more medicaly useful. If you did limit all stem cell research to adult stem cells, you could never cure some of the diseases that could potentially be completely cured by embryonic stem cells.
