MDNR proposes more environmental degradation2005-06-02 13:40:38mariwinn

Unprotecting Missouri streams is obviously another example of how our state agencies support big business rather than the environment. When I asked Ted Heisel, the executive director of the Missouri Coalition for the Environment, why the MDNR is considering this, his reply was "Money! It will cost money to disinfect sewage effluent. Almost all other states around the country have taken this step [to disinfect], but as you know, we are the 'Show Me' state. We are among the last states to make streams "swimmable. If these exemptions go through it will mean that existing and new facilities can continue to dump non-disinfected effluent into streams."
