School violence must be addressed for the sake of all concerned. The Defense Foundation for Children USA joins in support of Justice for Juveniles in concern for trying this child as an adult. It is noted with grave concern that this young man faced extensive bullying by his peers. His disablities were not addressed. It is admitted by his mother that she nor the school were able to give him the help, support and protection needed at a very crucial and critical times. His actions represent his inability and his decisions made as a child in immaturity. These clearly show he is not capable as an adult to make adult decisions or exhibit adult behavior. He needs to be treated as a juvenile and needs to receive help as a child who is in need of help. Let us not be overzealous in our fears of yet another Vtech, but to offer students the help that they need when they need it, as a child not an adult. We have the opportunity to prevent future violence by molding a life that is not lost and forcing the community to care what happens to their students. All of them. We need to realize bullying must be taken as seriously as it is and not allow it to continue on into the judicial system by ending a juveniles life by turning him into an adult over night, with adult consequence and punishment.
