Congressional Pay Hikes2004-09-21 19:00:34shanet

Below is the context of an email I received from the website Congress.org. It appears that our fine representatives in Congress have voted themselves a nice hefty pay raise! When was the last time you got a $4000.00 raise in one year? They conveniently tacked it on to a procedural motion on whether to debate the Transportation and Treasury Bill. Talk about slick! Below is the break down on how the rest of Missouri's representatives voted. In a time when we the people are expected to make sacrifices to make ends meet, some of our elected representatives have chosen to line their own pockets and send a message to those that elected them, that they are somehow different and special and shouldn't be expected to make the same sacrifices. Shame on them! How the U.S. House from Missouri voted: • Rep. Todd Akin (R-2) Y • Rep. Roy Blunt (R-7) Y • Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay (D-1) Y • Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-8) N • Rep. Richard Gephardt (D-3) NV • Rep. Sam Graves (R-6) N • Rep. Kenny Hulshof (R-9) N • Rep. Karen McCarthy (D-5) Y • Rep. Ike Skelton (D-4) Y Context of Email: Congressional Pay Raise - Vote Passed (235-170, 28 Not Voting) By approving this procedural motion to debate the Transportation and Treasury appropriations bill, Congress voted to give itself a $4,000 pay raise next year.
