CAFOs, clean up your act2006-08-13 11:35:51brocksmi

Please let our U.S. Senators and House members know that you support clean water and control of excess animal waste. Call, email, or write Sen. Tom Coburn and Sen. James Inhofe as well as your Congressman. Animal waste is recognized as a major source of water pollution in America. Adequate controls are not in place. This comment refers to the article explaining an effort by corporate agriculture and farm groups to rewrite current legislation. Oklahoma's lawsuit against poultry companies is based on the legislation these groups are trying to rewrite. Agriculture industry claims that lawsuits such as Oklahoma's would prevent the use of animal manure are a smoke screen. We are not talking about Granddad's barnyard. We're concerned about factory farms that produce tons of waste that is getting into our water. If these factory farms, including the poultry farms targeted by Oklahoma's clean water lawsuit, cannot exist without degrading our drinking water and our tourism industry, they are not sustainable and they should have to clean up their act.--Ed Brocksmith, Oklahoma
