1969? Pretty pathetic.2005-09-12 21:48:19tamartim

This thread discussed whether it is intellectually honest to assert that Jehovah's Witnesses engage in 'bait&switch' in promising paradise by a certain date and then switching the date. I wrote that in more than 30 years of talking with them, I've never heard a date mentioned. So some math-difficient malcontent chimes up, 'Hey what about these four vague sentences from a magazine in 1969?' Um, dude, do you realize what a sad pathetic stretch that is? Even if your quote is accurate, that article is more than 37 years old! It uses vague terms like 'evidence indicates' and 'well on its way'. A whining troll like that is clearly a professional victim looking to blame everyone but himself for his poor decisions.

Watchtower Lie/People die2005-07-13 08:39:26dhaszard

"The promises of the Watchtower are the promises of the Bible"--- Reg this assertion:Ninety percent of Watchtower "promises" are falsehoods.Lets take just one "promise",the promise of 'living forever on a paradise earth' on the condition of servitude (enslavement) to the Watchtower corporation.--Nobody goes to Heaven except 144,000 of Watchtower elite. That's right no born again Christians,Catholics,Jews,Moslems allowed.--The Jehovah Witness lies go on and on.....

Bible's promises2005-07-13 06:43:39rambaldi

Nathan, /"The \"young person\" to whom that comment was addressed is now moving into their fifth decade of life, and the promises of the Watchtower have yet to be fulfilled./" The promises of the Watchtower are the promises of the Bible. Why have the ten commandments posted everyone if people are going to reject other parts of the Bible.

Improper accusations2005-07-13 06:37:30rambaldi

There are people, I being one, that do not believe that the criminal injustice system is the best means of dealing with matters and that it makes things worse. If there is other evidence there is a case. But like the Michael Jackson case, the Wendy's chili finger, and others, accusations aren't what they are cracked up to be. Remember Anita Hill. All that came out of that stuff was tarnishing Clarance Thomas' reputation. Are you saying that it is proper to convict on the testimony of one? What a stupid post that you made. You heard a few bad things, isolated instances that individuals did and now you blame everyone in the organization. That is stupid and bigoted. You should be focusing on the fact that we are out there and doing God's will, rather than siding with Satan against us.

JWs at your door2005-07-06 17:57:58cocatica

Remember too, Jws do not notify the authorities when a member is accused of molesting a child. And, if there are not two witnesses to the molestation, nothing is done to the accused. Do child molestors typically bring along two witnesses? So, one or even both of those nice-looking, clean cut people knocking on your door just might be a pedophile. What if next time a Jw knocks your child answers? The JWs have to keep a record of all the houses they have approached.

Do you want dates?2005-07-05 17:43:49nathan

"BUT, in the thirty-something years I\'ve been continuing this long conversation with them, the JW\'s have NEVER mentioned a date or a year or even a decade to me." Quite likely they failed to point out to you what was printed in the AWAKE! magazine of May 22, 1969: ""If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. .....all evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. ....as a young person you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!" The "young person" to whom that comment was addressed is now moving into their fifth decade of life, and the promises of the Watchtower have yet to be fulfilled.

ya right2005-07-05 15:38:58dabit

Talk about a wolf in sheeps clothing...this doornob has obviously got an axe to grind with Jehovah's Witnesses. He's done quite a bit of anti-JW research to come up with all those supposed dates, that probably most JW's dont even know. I doubt he is some innocent person that answers the door when a JW knocks at his door. The poor JW will have to listen to his psycho ranting before they could ever get a word in!!! Bait and Switch hug?? Ya Right!!!

Wolves in Sheep's Clothing2005-07-05 10:20:49dhaszard

"I talk to these clean-cut family men and women whenever they come to my door".....Regarding this remark--------- When the devil comes knocking at your door,he won't have the dark goth look. Yes,they will be smartly dressed wielding the Christian Bible and flapping the watchtower magazine.-------Jesus own Words at Matthew 7:15 -- "be on the watch for the false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing but inside they are ravenous wolves".------------ The central CORE dogma of the the Watchtower the reason that they came into existence was to declare Jesus Christ second coming in 1914 --- DATE-setting is what the Watchtower is all about 1870,1914,1925,1935,1975...

B&S not my experience2005-07-05 08:57:07tamartim

Jehovah's Witnesses engage in so-called 'bait-and-switch'? I talk to these clean-cut family men and women whenever they come to my door. I usually ask them: 1. How do they know the end is near? 2. When will this happen? I am always a little shaken by the details when they read those signs from Revelations and Matthew and other books, and I know the signs are in my bible too. BUT, in the thirty-something years I've been continuing this long conversation with them, the JW's have NEVER mentioned a date or a year or even a decade to me. Is the anonymous Op-Ed writer really being intellectually honest since he presents date-setting as an ongoing flaw of Jehovah's Witnesses and reason to fear conversing with them today?
