Carver contest targets fourth graders -doris

"If George Washington Carver were my teacher" is the theme of the 20th annual George Washington Carver Art & Essay Contest sponsored by the George Washington Carver Birthplace Association and the Missouri Southern State University School of Education.

Open to all fourth grade students in public school, private school and home school, the contest has a deadline of February 12, 2010, providing an activity to celebrate black history month. Complete contest rules may be found here.

Certificates, ribbons, trophies and U.S. Savings Bonds will be awarded at a ceremony that is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the visitor center of the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond. The public is encouraged to attend.

The monument is located at 5646 Carver Rd., two miles west of Diamond on Highway V, then ½ mile south on Carver Road. For more information, please call the park at (417) 325-4151 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
