Adult day care center now open a-long
Updated: 2008-05-31 15:21:05
A Pleasant Day Adult Day Center
recently has opened at
1231 S. Porter Ave., Joplin

Hours: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday

Many families need some place for their elderly family members to stay during the day while the other members are at work. The US Dept. of Labor estimates that 30% of the work force currently is involved in caring for an aging parent or other relative. Over the next decade the government expects that figure to increase to 54%. State licensed A Pleasant Day Adult Day Center owned by husband/wife team of Gene and Anissa Long, a registered nurse for 16 years, is just the easily accessible place to meet this need for 15 clients in the most cost effective way.

According to demographic trends by 2030 persons over age 65 will represent more than one-fifth of all Missourians with a projection of 1.4 million. The US Census Bureau predicts that the number of US frail/elderly, aged 85 and older, will rise from 4.2 million based upon figures from 2000 to 7.3 million in 2020.

With a registered nurse on hand at all times, services are available for adults 18 and over who are disabled, frail, socially isolated or unable to remain by themselves for extended periods of time. They must display appropriate behavior and be free of communicable disease.

A daily schedule of crafts, table games, sing-a-longs and easy listening music, exercise, movies, special occasion parties and occasional outings are available. An individualized program includes the option of assistance with personal care, meals and snacks and medication.

The facility has a living room, activity room, TV room, library, two rest rooms, a room with a bed, dining room and kitchen.

Services may be paid through private pay, Medicaid, or long term care insurance. For more information phone (417) 206-4064 or send an e-mail here.
