The Federal and State Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA and SEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Joplin for people affected by the May 8-16 storms, tornadoes and flooding. The location of the office is at the United Methodist Church 4th and Byers. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. from Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. It will be closed July 4.

Anyone planning on visiting this location should pre-register for disaster assistance here or by phoning (800) 621-3362 or for TTY at (800) 462-7585, seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. After pre-registering a person may find that he or she does not need to visit a center.

DRC services include checking the status of a claim, getting answers to questions about recovery status and reviewing information FEMA needs to process a claim. The center's recovery assistants may also be able to supply contacts to other programs that may be available for further assistance.

Customer service representatives from the US Small Business Administration will be at the center to answer questions about the SBA's low-interest disaster loan program and help complete forms. The loans help with the financing of real estate and personal property replacement. By phone assistance is available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, at (800) 659-2955.
