What distinguishes the barred owl from other owls are the white bars across its chest and its brown, instead of yellow, eyes. The barred owl's sense of smell is probably not that strong. They are said to eat skunks. A predator to be respected, this barred owl, who lives near Seneca, like other owls are capable of doing, has turned its head almost all the way around to stare down the photographer.
