Reserve June 15-16 for a Kansas City garden tour admin2
Updated: 2007-05-21 15:48:22

The Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City are sponsoring their annual Midtown/South Kansas City Garden Tour. Featuring 10 gardens along the state line corridor, it will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16, 2007.

Included are two certified rain gardens, a multi-level water garden, a greenhouse brimming with orchids and other private gardens with themes that include a hint of the South, mountain influence, tropical holiday, behind the white picket fence and eclectic happiness.

An authentic Japanese tea ceremony will take place at the Loose Park Garden Center where the Kurashiki Japanese Garden and Tea Room is located. Participants' rose related questions will be answered by the Kansas City Rose Society members at the Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden.

Master Gardeners will be selling their plants and garden art works at the Eclectic Happiness location. They also will be available to answer questions and provide hand-outs.

Tickets are $10 in advance, or $12 on the day of the tour and may be used both days in order to stroll the gardens leisurely. Tickets may be picked up at the Family Free Nursery, 8424 Farley St., Overland Park, KS or 7036 Nieman Rd., Shawnee, KS; Heartland Nursery, 10300 View High Rd., Lee's Summit; Keller's Flower Haus, 15640 E. 40 Hwy., Independence; Soil Service Garden Center, 7130 Troost, Kansas City, MO; and the following extension offices: Jackson County (Blue River Community College), 1501 W. Jefferson, Suite 110, Blue Springs; Clay County (Annex Bldg.), 1901 NE 48th St., Kansas City; Cass County, 302 S. Main, Harrisonville; and Platt County (Resource Center), 11724 NW Plaza Circle, Suite 300, Kansas City. To order tickets by mail, go here for a mail-in form (http://extension.missouri.edu/gkcmg/Garden%20Tour/Garden%20Tour%20Reg.pdf).
