| The 2007-08 concert season has been announced by Joplin's Pro Musica. This season in addition to the five free concerts, two concerts and a symphony have been scheduled besides the Joplin PoPs that require an admission charge. All free concerts begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in area churches. The lineup includes:
- 7:30 p.m.; Tues., Nov. 6, 2007 at the Taylor Performing arts Center, Missouri Southern State University The Vienna Boys'Choir, one of the oldest of its kind in the world, is synonymous with choral music and as a symbol of Austria. Admission: $12 each adult, $10 each senior citizen or child 12 and under.
- 7 p.m.; Thurs., Nov. 15, 2007 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 7th & Byers: The Jupiter String Quartet, a rising young group, recently was awarded the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award. Free. Thanks to the C.W. Titus Foundation.
- 7 p.m.; Thurs., Dec. 6, 2007 at College Heights Christian Church, 4311 E. Newman Rd.: The Amelia Piano Trio--violin, cello and piano--is a chamber group that in the last decade have made their mark commissioning new works as well as performing vivid interpretations of traditional chamber fare. Free. Thanks to Leggett & Platt.
- 7 p.m.; Thurs., Feb. 14, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 7th & Pearl: The Daedalus String Quartet founded in 2000 will be joined by composer, author and lecturer, Bruce Adolphe. Free.
- 11 a.m.; Sat., Feb. 16, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 7th & Pearl: The Daedalus String Quartet will perform a special family concert. Admission: $7.50 each adult, $5 each child ages 3-12, and free for children two and under.
- 3:30 p.m.; Sun., Mar. 9, 2008 at Taylor Performing Arts Center, Missouri Southern State University: The State Symphony of Mexico was founded in 1971 to spread music as an art to create union and identity among citizens. Admission: Choice of seats for adults each $60, $20, $15, $10; special price tickets for senior citizens and children 12 and under, each $17 & $7.
- POSTPONED TO MAY 5TH--7 p.m.; Thurs., Apr. 3, 2008 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 812 S. Pearl: Pomerium, a 12-voice ensemble will perform music written for the Sistine Chapel Choir when Michelangelo was painting the chapel ceiling and altar wall. Lecture with slides about the design of the Sistine Chapel will precede the concert by approx. 45 mins. Free. Thanks to Jimmer Pinjuv & Sarah McConnell Pinjuv and the Bramlage Family Foundation.
- 8 p.m.; Fri., June 27, 2008 at the Missouri Southern State University oval: Come early for a picnic and enjoy an evening of beautiful music under the stars (Band TBA). (In case of rain concert is presented in Taylor Auditorium.) Admission: $12.50 each in advance, $15 at the gate; children under 12 are free.
