| JEFFERSON CITY — Governor Matt Blunt today endorsed Senator Michael Gibbons for Missouri Attorney General, citing, what he considered, his leadership experience and personal integrity:
“Senator Gibbons is an experienced leader with a strong record of fighting for the safety of our families,” Governor Blunt said. “His leadership was vital to the passage of Missouri's version of Jessica's Law to protect children from dangerous predators. He has been an energetic advocate for victims of rape and domestic violence. As the highest ranking member of the Missouri Senate, Senator Gibbons proved his tremendous leadership qualities again and again, working with legislators on both sides of the aisle. Senator Gibbons will be a tough and effective Attorney General for the people of Missouri who will always act with integrity.”
Gibbons serves the people of the 15th district in the Missouri Senate, which includes much of southwest St. Louis County. He was elected to the Senate in 2000 after serving eight years as a state representative. A Republican, he currently serves as the majority floor Leader.
Born and raised in Kirkwood, Missouri, Gibbons graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1977. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Westminster College in 1981 and a Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University School of Law in 1984. Currently, he practices law in Kirkwood alongside his father, Michael Gibbons, and partner David Howard.
Gibbons serves on the following standing committees: rules, joint rules, resolutions and ethics, chairman; administration, vice-chairman; and gubernatorial appointments, vice-chairman.
He lives in Kirkwood with his wife, Liz, and two children, Danny and Meredith.
Gibbons made the announcement that he was running for the position of attorney general at an interview conducted in Branson on October 12, 2007, although some believe that he stirred the waters last February. Go Back |
