| Joplin Police arrested a 16-year-old male student on Tuesday March 4, 2008 after he made comments about possibly bringing a gun to school and shooting people with it.
The student showed a photo of two firearms to a school official and stated that they were automatic weapons. He then told the official that he “might take a few people out before he goes”
The student was arrested without incident and transported to the Jasper County Juvenile Detention Center located at 6th and Pearl.
Joplin Police conducted a thorough follow up investigation, which included a search of the suspect’s residence. A search of the residence located the weapons that the suspect had shown to the school official. Police confirmed that these weapons were an air soft gun and a BB gun.
The Joplin Police Department takes issues of this nature very seriously, and will continue to work with the Joplin R-8 School District to ensure that such conduct will be dealt with quickly and appropriately.
