Police Blotter: Stolen vehicle leads to arrests blewis

Officers on patrol spotted a stolen vehicle on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, parked in front of 1008 W. 2nd St. in Joplin. The blue 2001 Chevy Silverado was reported stolen on 10/27/09.

Officers set up a perimeter around the house. Joplin SWAT was called in to assist due to information received that the suspect may have been armed with a weapon.

After two hours SWAT was able to enter the house and take into custody three subjects. William D. Merchant, age 25, of Joplin is awaiting charges of first degree tampering with a motor vehicle. Tosha D LaFleur, age 30, is awaiting charges of receiving stolen property. Christopher H. Courtney was charged with misdemeanor obstruction.

Joplin Police have received information that the stolen vehicle may have been used in the commission of several different crimes since being reported as stolen. The investigation of possible connections to other crimes continues
