Joplin Police Blotter: Routine stop discovery blewis
Updated: 2010-02-10 13:07:27
A Joplin Police officer on patrol on February 7, 2010 conducted a routine traffic stop and recovered stolen equipment from the United States Air Force. Officer Nick Jimenez stopped a red 1991 Dodge pickup in the area of Hill and School streets for an inoperable brake light.

Upon contacting the driver he observed an open box of beer in the front seat. The driver was asked to perform field sobriety tests. Consent to search the vehicle was granted.

A license plate that was reported stolen out of Joplin was located in the vehicle. A search of the bed of the pickup was conducted and several sets of military tactical gloves, gun lights and clothing were located. Also located in the bed of the truck were handcuffs, a tactical armored vest, gas mask, rifle and ammo box full of ammunition.

The driver, Jason C Amhart of Joplin, age 23, was arrested for receiving stolen property. The passenger, David A. Amhart also of Joplin, age 21, was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Charges are pending.

The recovered military equipment was confirmed as stolen from Whiteman Air Force Base. Jason Amhart was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base until his discharge in November of 2009.
