Joplin Police Blotter: Shooting yesterday blewis
Updated: 2011-10-21 09:25:23
On October 20, 2011, the Joplin Police Department responded to 1423 Sergeant in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers found the victim, 48-year-old Karen Norris of Joplin, in her bedroom with a gunshot wound. She was transported to Freeman Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

The initial call was received as an attempted suicide and the investigations bureau responded. At this point investigators are looking into all possibilities as to what happened. There has been no determination as to whether this is a suicide or homicide. Investigators are working with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Jasper County Corners Office to follow up on several leads.

“It is important that we look at all the pieces of the investigation, before we make a determination as to what happened,” said Lt. Darren Gallup with the Joplin Police Department Investigations Bureau.

Wayne Fick, also living at 1423 Sergeant, is being held on a federal weapons violation.

Gallup added, “The investigation will continue until we are certain that all evidence is obtained and we have a clear picture as to what occurred”
