Joplin Police Blotter::Person shot at Motel 6

Joplin investigators are currently working a shooting scene at Motel 6, located at 3031 S. Range Line Rd. At 08:35 hours the Joplin Police Department received a call of shots fired at Motel 6. Agents with a Federal Fugitive Task Force encountered a suspect they were searching for on the parking lot. Shots were fired and the suspect was killed. No officers or other persons were injured in the shooting.

An autopsy has been scheduled to take place tomorrow in Columbia. Joplin Investigators will be finished processing the scene this evening.

The suspect in this incident, Michael D. Findley, 45, of Springfield, was armed with a handgun at the time the task force attempted to take him into custody. Findley was shot and killed at the scene. The deceased subject was a parole absconder who was originally charged with 2nd degree assault on a law enforcement officer. He also had an active warrant for felony stealing.

No Joplin officers were involved in the shooting. The Federal Task Force that was involved in the shooting is a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. The officers present at the scene of the shooting were from the Marshals Service and also Greene County Deputies attached to the Task Force.

More information will be released as the investigation progresses.
