Krista Garrett, at left, a senior at Neosho High School, recently was recognized in Columbia, MO at the Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events competition of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Garrett earned the highest score in the early childhood division and will be representing the state of Missouri at the FCCLA National STAR Events competition in Orlando, FL in July 2008.
To earn her recognition, Garrett had 30 minutes to prepare an age appropriate lesson using research materials she had gathered ahead of time and then teach the lesson to evaluators in 15 minutes or less. She was critiqued on the lesson as well as on her credentials detailing her expertise in the field working with young children.
Garrett is a second year student of Kelly Burton's in the child development program at the Crowder College Technical Education Center (CCTEC) and is vice president of the CCTEC chapter of FCCLA. She has won numerous academic honors and has received a Child Development Association scholarship to attend Crowder College in the fall. She intends to major in elementary education focusing on hearing impaired children. Go Back |
