Crowder names Dickey for teaching excellence award c-brown
Updated: 2009-12-18 20:20:25

J.P. Dickey, pictured left, is the 2009 Crowder College selection for The Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. A theatre and speech instructor since the fall of 2000, Dickey currently serves as the chairman of the fine arts division and instructional council.

The Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching is presented to an outstanding faculty member from each participating higher education institution in Missouri. While each institution has flexibility in selecting its award recipient, the following criteria are recommended: effective teaching and advising, service to the university community, commitment to high standards of excellence and success in nurturing student achievement.

Dickey's experience began at Crowder as a student some 30 years ago. In accepting the award he credited his success to the mentoring he received from Ed Oathout, his music/theatre instructor at that time.

The baton is passed along. In praising Dickey's teaching a student wrote:

“JP is absolutely amazing...He has truly helped me with my education and made the learning experience so much better. I truly think of him as a mentor and not just an instructor. I am so grateful for what he has taught me. He is one of the [reasons] that keep me coming back to Crowder.”
