Audition is scheduled for 4-states idol event

The "4-states Idol Event" for the benefit of Ascent Recovery Residences will take place with a final round on September 24, 2010, at the Joplin Memorial Hall, 8th & Joplin. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with contestants performing at 7 p.m.

There will be two age groups performing: 16-20 years-old and 21 and older. A second preliminary audition will be held at the Foundry, next to the Bridge, at 3405 S. Hammons Blvd., Joplin at noon on Saturday, Aug. 21. The first audition took place on July 24 during which four contestants were chosen to perform in the final round. Up to six more could qualify.

Singing performances must be between two and three minutes in length and not exceed four people. Judging is based upon stage presence and professionalism, technical ability, appearance and costume and presentation. Any exception to the rules must be approved by the talent contest chairperson.

While sound equipment will be provided, each contestant is responsible for supplying his/her labeled musical CD and instruments, plug and play ready.

A first prize of $500 and opportunity to perform at the Music City Centre in Branson will be awarded to the winner of the 16-20 age group. First place in the 21 and over age group will receive $1,000 and an opportunity to perform at the Hard Rock Cafe in Tulsa. The winner of the People's Choice Award will walk away with $1,000.

General admission on September 24 is $5; reserved seating for dinner is $20 per person. The MC is Gary Bandy. A silent auction also will be held.
