Updated: 2008-07-01 20:33:43
The Joplin Police Department announced that Corporal Gabe Allen received the Medal of Valor from the North American Police Work Dog Association during their annual national conference in Indianapolis last month.

Allen also received a Medal of Valor on behalf of K-9 Cezar. The police K-9 Cezar was killed after being shot while attempting to apprehend an armed robber. The robbery occurred on September 11, 2007 at Buffalo Wild Wings located at 430 S. Geneva Ave. Paul White was later arrested and charged with the robbery and shooting of the police dog.

The Joplin Police Department has four police K-9s. All are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association which requires annual re-certification.
