For those novices who are interested in planting a vegetable garden and don't know where to start the MU Extension offers a "Vegetable Planting Calendar" edited by Lewis W. Jett of the Missouri Department of Horticulture. It provides information on space required for dozens of different vegetables categorized according to their richness in vitamins and other attributes. Recommended vegetable varieties and planting dates are listed according to whether the garden is in the north, central or south sections of a map provided.
