March 25, 2016
MT. VERNON, MO – Individuals that would like to grow fresh produce and vegetables but don’t have the space to establish a garden should take advance of the community garden plots being made available at the Southwest Research Center located south of Mt. Vernon, off of I-44.

A limited number of 10 foot by 10 foot plots are available to the public this spring.

There will be even more plots available in 2017 along with hands-on gardening lessons according to Dr. Amanda Marney, program director at the Southwest Center.

“Faculty and staff at Southwest Research Center will be working together with VISTA volunteers to create a community garden program that will illustrate proper gardening techniques,” said Marney.

Persons interested in requesting a garden plot should contact Amanda Marney or Jendel Wolfe by telephone at (417) 466-2148.
