Erik Wright of Joplin, pictured, after having collected the required signatures to complete a nominating petition, is now certified to appear on the April 6, 2010 ballot for a general city council seat.
Wright, 28, the director of surveillance at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK, is a former law enforcement officer. He graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a bachelor of science in business administration management with emphasis on human resources.
Campaigning for increased community development, Wright wants to duplicate the successes seen downtown in other areas of the community, including the expansion of safety. He advocates unified walking trails, the establishment of neighborhood block associations that qualify for home improvement grant money and the burying of electric lines to lessen the number of outages during storms. He wants to see the hours of the Sunshine Lamp Trolley program modified to benefit those working later shifts, those shopping until closing and those "who have enjoyed Joplin nightlife." And he wants greater transparency in government.
Chosen to work on the committee, "Wright for Joplin," are Amanda L. Brink as treasurer and Daniel Wright as public relations. “I am excited to be working to get Erik Wright elected on April 6th,” said Brink, “Erik will bring a fresh voice and new energy that is needed on our city council.”
Three general seats are up for grabs in the April election. Mike Woolston, Jack Golden, Phil Stinnet, and Trisha Raney are also certified to appear on the ballot for general council seats. Two potential candidates, Kelly Maddy and Bob Gullen also are circulating petitions for general seats.
A meet the candidate event has been scheduled for 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at 528 S. Jackson, Joplin. Go Back |
