Dollars and sense of campaigning ddavison
Updated: 2008-03-27 12:25:34-06

This partial rendition of a movie poster parody that appeared on About.com" political humor comes with the message that "Arrogance is a force with dire consequences." It was created in 2005 by a group hoping to "topple Bush."

If you are like I am, you are probably very tired of receiving e-mails and calls and communications of all kinds from organizations and people during this ongoing election year wanting money. As we know, the money in the elections at all levels funds the way politicians try to hoodwink the public with slick advertisements wrapped in a modicum of so-called news.

Unfortunately, voters fall for the politicians' lines. That's how most of our leaders were elected, especially in '06, those who since have just flat laid down on the job and continue to ignore the will of the majority of the members of the American Grass Roots Movement who would support them with their teeth if they would just do their jobs.

I am always frustrated because PNO could do a lot more to educate and communicate with our local public if we had a little more money; we are not very good fund raisers, but we'll make do the best we can. There always is a way to do things without a lot of money, although a little advertising never hurts.

I'd like to call your attention to one of the e-mails we received this morning that asks us for money and not just because it is so entertaining to read but that if its sender is successful in raising the money her effort would be vital for our country. And we certainly wish Shirley Golub the very best of luck in her campaign to unseat one of the biggest duds we have ever had as Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

The e-mail that asks for donations to support the production of a play describes it this way:

Picture this scene in your mind. The audience is cast as the members of the U.S. Senate hearing evidence in the impeachment trial of George Bush and Dick Cheney. With all the damning evidence presented of their many high crimes, the lies to go to war, the illegal wiretaps, the secret torture of detainees, the outing of a CIA agent, the law defying signing statements and everything else, it looks very bad for Bush and Cheney for anyone with a fair, open and patriotic mind. But Bush still remains arrogant, and at the end he taunts the audience, thinking he will still be able to skate away from the whole thing.

'And that's why I'm going to finish my term as your president . . . and who's going to stand up to stop me?'[Bush shouts.]

And there is silence in the theater. And then...we hear a single voice from the back of the audience, calling out in loud voice from the dark, 'I...I will stand up. I will for impeachment.' And the whole audience turns their heads to see who this person is who has stood up to protect and defend the Constitution. And then we hear another voice from the other side of the audience, just as brave and courageous, 'I...I too will stand up.'

Now there are two of us standing together. If that's all it took to make it happen, to just stand up in our seats right now, will we do it?" And then another and another, and it turns in to a standing ovation with everyone clapping and cheering, 'Impeach, Impeach!!!' THE END of the Bush/Cheney nightmare.

We also wish the best of luck to our friend Cindy Sheehan who is making the same effort to unseat an empty bag in the Congress. I am not suggesting you send money to an out of state campaign because naturally we have our own problems in Missouri, but I wanted you to see the fantastic idea that some creative people have come up with that could light the fire under the "do nothings" in the Congress. Wouldn't it be fun to do that in Missouri when the time comes to approach our own problems?
