The debut of an Adopt-a-Garden program, a cooperative venture between the city of Neosho and its citizens recently has been announced.
Through an agreement with the city, an individual or group assumes responsibility for the maintenance of a garden chosen from a list of plots of differing sizes located on public property throughout the city. Coordinated by the Neosho Park & Recreation Director Todd Banes, the program hopes to increase civic pride and a sense of community ownership.
Those who adopt a garden will:
- Install plantings according to an approved design
- Keep the garden weed free
- Cut back and mulch the garden in appropriate seasons
- Remove litter and debris
- Water the garden as needed
An Adopt-A-Garden application may be found here. Banes may be reached at (417) 451-8090 for more information about the program.
