Joplin Police Blotter: Fatality on 32nd St.

On March 4, 2012, at 9:18 p.m., the Joplin Police Department responded to the area of East 32nd and Lewellen Drive, in reference to a two vehicle crash and reports that one of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle. As a result of this crash, 32nd Street from Duquesne to Hwy 71 was closed until 1:30 a.m.
A 1998 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling West on 32nd Street. The driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle when it crossed over into the eastbound lanes, and struck a 2000 Mercury Cougar.
The Malibu was driven by Lanny Vene, 48 years old of Joplin. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The other car, a 2000 Mercury Cougar, was driven by Randy Sneed, 42 years old, from Seligman. He was treated at a local hospital and released.
This crash is still under investigation by the Joplin Police Department Traffic Unit.
