Shed pounds in virtual contest with Bob Harper
July 11, 2011
Believe it or not tweens, teens and 30-somethings have something in common: social networking and dieting. Health-minded folks of all ages are turning to interactive internet sites to help them lose weight and keep it off.

As part of its effort to help people live healthier lives, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has launched a virtual contest to help people boost their way to better health. Starting today through August 15, 2011, Facebook users who enter Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s “Join In to Win contest,” can “like,” post, and jump start their way to a healthier life and a personal training experience with Bob Harper from The Biggest Loser.

“Join In to Win” is an interactive, virtual contest designed to encourage people to set and achieve their health and fitness goals. Social network channels are a great way to encourage others and be encouraged by your friends to live healthier.

The leaders of the top 5 teams, selected by Bob Harper for level of participation and selection of goal, will win a personal training experience with him. The training experience includes participation in a 6-week training period in the form of video chats. Winners also will be assigned an Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Health coach to help them achieve their health and fitness goals.

Contest details

To enter visit Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s “Health Join In” Facebook page here. Users should watch five boost videos, pledging to complete the activity featured in each video by clicking the “I’m Ready” button.

After completing all five videos, beginning July 18th users can then enter the contest by setting a personal goal for themselves and sharing it with their Facebook friends. Participants are encouraged to create a Facebook community around a healthy goal of their choosing. Once the goal is posted, participants are prompted to get their friends involved in achieving the same goal by joining their team

If people are new to social media or not quite up to the challenge yet, they still may benefit from Harper's guidance without formal participation in the contest. All followers of Anthem’s “Health Join In” Facebook page will be able to hear his expert advice and encouragement. Videos from him will be accessible to contestants, their team members and all followers.
