Ozark students learn meaning of  earwood
Updated: 2009-12-16 08:17:55
Realife Student Ministries in Ozark, MO today (Dec. 16, 2009) will celebrate a yearlong effort to raise $200,000 for missions. The local event, “Overflow ’09,” will be held at 7 p.m. in the Realife Student Center at Highway 65 and CC, but will also be available online as a live webcast so other youth groups from around the country may be a part of the celebration.

Through their generosity, the youth of Realife have inspired a nationwide movement of creative giving in teenagers amidst the worst economic crisis their generation has ever seen. In 2008, Scotty Gibbons, director of Realife Student Ministries at James River Assembly, inspired teenagers with an incredible challenge: To raise more than $50,000 for missions in just 11 weeks. In the midst of a downturn economy, the 1,000-student youth ministry took to the challenge and ultimately gave over $75,000.

As a result, Gibbons wrote a new book, Overflow, an inspirational guide to giving for students. The book details Realife’s 11-week journey and shares personal stories of the students who learned that they could live an "overflowing" life by giving. All profits from the sale of Overflow goes directly to missions; Scotty’s ultimate goal is to help raise $1 million dollars for missions in 2009.
