| Historic cane is featured on PBS show | greyes | | Updated: 2010-06-24 13:29:35 | | | | Lancaster, Missouri resident Cindy Wilcox shares an historic cane with Wes Cowan, host of History Detectives in a segment that airs on PBS stations at 8 p.m. on June 28, 2010. Wilcox inherited the wooden cane topped with a coiled snake from her great-great grandfather, Henry Clay Dean, a member of the powerful anti-Lincoln group, the "Peace Democrats." Dean was mentioned by Mark Twain in his book Life on the Mississippi in which the author nicknamed his group the "Copperheads" after the snake known for striking without warning.
