Celebrating the Birth of Our Democracy
This is the time of year we celebrate the birth of the democracy that our Founding Fathers heroically struggled to create. We are blessed to live in a nation where all are given the chance to succeed and freely express their views without fear of persecution.
On the Fourth of July we honor our Founders who bravely fought to establish an independent America. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their patriotic spirit and that the country we call our home is a place of freedom and opportunity for all.
As we celebrate our nation's birthday, please remember the men and women who are currently serving in harm's way in your thoughts and prayers. Through their valiant efforts to defend freedom and democracy they are helping millions of people learn what it means to live in a free society. May God continue to watch over them and bring each of them safely home to their families and loved ones.
In May I had the opportunity to visit with Missouri's patriots defending American freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. These dedicated men and women are helping spread democracy to individuals who once lived under repressive regimes. Missouri's military men and women serving on the front lines and their families back home understand the sacrifices that are made in the name of freedom and democracy.
While we celebrate the Fourth of July with our families and friends it is important for us to remember the freedoms we hold dear to our hearts are ours because those who came before us paid the cost. There have been times throughout our country's history when battles have been waged to ensure that the United States of America remains committed to the ideas of liberty and justice for all. The fireworks that will light up many communities this holiday remind us that our freedom is hard fought but well worth the price.
Melanie and I send our best wishes to all Missourians as we celebrate our Independence Day. May God continue to bless America.
