Expansion of cable services considered a priority
March 15, 2007
JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today commended the Missouri General Assembly for supporting his call to enact statewide cable franchise agreements with the passage of SB 284. The legislation was one of the priorities Blunt outlined in his State of the State address.

“This legislation achieves my call to provide Missourians with greater choices and lower prices for cable services,” Gov. Blunt said. “I commend the members of the General Assembly for passing this important legislation that will expand services to all areas of our state. I especially appreciate Sen. Griesheimer’s hard work on this issue and I look forward to signing the bill into law.”

“The legislation not only gives Missourians more choices but will bring millions of dollars worth of new technology to the state,” said Sen. John Griesheimer, the bill’s sponsor. “I deeply appreciate the governor’s support on this issue and for including this in his State of the State address.”

SB 284 enacts a statewide cable franchise agreement that will ultimately decrease prices and expand options through increased competition for Missouri cable consumers. The legislation streamlines the process for new cable providers to enter Missouri’s market.

The governor plans to sign the legislation, but no date has been finalized.
