Neosho is funded for safety improvements hfoster
Updated: 2007-05-23 09:34:59
NEOSHO—Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that the city of Neosho, one of the inaugural Downtown Revitalization and Economic Assistance for Missouri (DREAM) cities has been awarded a $400,000 Community Block Development Grant to fund downtown infrastructure improvements.

“This grant will help the city of Neosho move closer to its goal of strengthening its downtown as a center of job creation and enhanced opportunities for area residents,” Blunt said. “Our DREAM initiative is helping other Missouri communities reach similar milestones and I am excited about the prospects this innovative program can help deliver.”

Neosho will use the funds to bring downtown sidewalks into Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards, the installation of streetlights and the striping of parking lots to enhance safety and make the downtown area more inviting.

Blunt created the DREAM initiative to help small and mid-sized Missouri communities navigate through various community, housing and economic development programs available through the state. The goal is to help selected cities revitalize their downtown areas into centers of job creation and economic enhancement and to assist with structural and infrastructural projects to help support new and existing business.

The Community Development Block Program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides economic development grants and loan funds to cities with a population under 50,000 and counties under 200,000.
