| Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt has appointed James E. Burlingame (R), 30, of Joplin to the amusement ride safety board. Burlingame who helps operate the Rt. 66 Carousel Park, a family owned entertainment center on Seventh St. in Joplin, holds a level II (out of three levels) National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (NAARSO) certification.
The powers of the board include consulting with engineering authorities and organization studying and developing amusement ride safety standards, adopting a code of rules and regulations governing maintenance, testing, operation and inspection of amusement rides, and making recommendations to the state fire marshal concerning the board's findings on safety issues related to amusement rides (Missouri Revised Statutes, chapter 316, section 316.205).
Burlingfame's appointment is subject to Senate confimation for a term ending on April 17, 2010.
