Do you brag about your pie?
July 01, 2008
Amateur bakers of all ages are invited to enter an inaugural contest sponsored by Melanie Blunt. The First Lady's Pie Contest will be held August 14, 2008 at the Home Economics Building on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia.

All contestants must pre-register by July 21, 2008 and bring their home baked pie to the Home Economics Building by 9:30 a.m. on August 14. With the pie a typed or printed official MSF recipe form is required along with a home economics exhibitor's entry form. The non-previously published recipe must include all ingredients in exact measurements, preparation steps, pan size (pie must be baked in a standard 9-inch round aluminum pie pan), temperature and time for baking. Perishable pies must be brought on ice in a cooler.

Awards for the best pie are $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place. Food industry professionals judging the contest include Jerry Walsh, Governor's Mansion chef; Mary Hostetter, owner of the Blue Owl in Kimmswick; and Carol Eldred, partner in Cooky's Cafe in Golden City.

Certain fees may be required. For an application go here. For more info phone (800) 422-3247.
