Local students receive business indoctrination

Fourteen local students had the opportunity to learn basic business practices at the 23rd annual Missouri Business Week (MBW), a five-day experience in Columbia, MO sponsored by the Missouri Association of REALTORS and the University of Missouri Robert J. Trulaske Sr. College of Business that is designed to introduce high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors to the world of management and marketing. Recommended by their teachers and school counselors, these students were assisted by volunteer business leaders and professional workshop facilitators to understand the basics of productive teamwork, leadership styles and proper business ethics.

Students attending from Joplin High School were Erin Vanessa Albrecht, Krystal Beecher, Keegan Tinney, and Rhaysa Velazquez and from McAuley Catholic High School were Morgan Adrian, Jessie Cupp, Casey Daniel, Kurt Daniels, Linda Guthery, Anthony Hibbs-Estrada, Zakkary Huddleston, Kevin OKeefe, Jae Stephens, and Shelby Tinney.

Colleen Kinsey, a recent graduate of McAuley also participated as a student intern. She had attended MBW 2007 and returned to assist staff and volunteers this summer.

Vicki Christensen, of Pro 100, Inc., was a local businessperson who shared her expertise. She facilitated a team-building activity, "Lost in the Ocean."

Other local sponsors included the Ozark Gateway Association of REALTORS, Abbey Title Company, Gay Lynne Dawson of RE/MAX Classic in Carthage, Gil Stevens of Joplin, Empire District Electric Company, Hometown Bank of Joplin, Keller Williams Realty and Leggett & Platt.
