Parents are encouraged to recognize great teachers
January 08, 2011
JOPLIN - Nominations for the 2010-2011 Golden Apple Awards are being accepted now through February 4, 2011. This is the 26th year for this popular program, which recognizes teaching excellence in our Joplin schools. Over the past quarter century, 96 educators in the Joplin schools have been recognized with this honor. This year's winners will be announced at the annual Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce banquet to be held May 5, 2011.

Awards are given in four categories: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Teachers who are nominated are eligible to win if they are a certified classroom teacher who instructs students on a daily basis and are teaching during the 2010-2011 school year. Parents with children currently attending a Joplin school are encouraged to vote for any teacher that has made a profound impact on their education.

The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce would like to note the presenting sponsors for the award including, Empire District Electric Company and Warten, Fisher, Lee & Brown, LLC. This award would not be possible without the support of these sponsors.

Nomination forms may be picked up at any Joplin school, public or private, or at the JACC, 320 East 4th St. Nominations may also be entered online here.

Please contact Cary Beasley, workforce development manager, at (417) 624.4150 with any questions.
