Joplin residents to serve the state of Missouri keithb

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt recently announced appointments of members who will serve on several boards, commissions and councils. Among them several are from Joplin.

Allen R. Shirley (R), 59, was appointed to the Missouri Housing Development Commission. He is a senior executive professional sales representative with Ortho McNeil Pharmaceuticals. Shirley holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pittsburg State University. His appointment is for a term ending on October 13, 2012.

Re-appointed to the State Committee for Professional Counselors is Naomi R. Hunter, 55, a supervisor and counselor at the Ozark Center Turnaround Ranch. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Missouri Southern State University and a master's in counseling from Pittsburg State University. Her appointment is for a term ending on August 28, 2012.

Renamed to the Missouri State Council on the Arts is Sharon Beshore, 57, a member of the George A. Spiva Center for the Arts. A former educator at Missouri Southern State University School of Education and with 22-years teaching experience, Beshore holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Kansas, a master's in education from the University of Colorado and an education specialist degree in higher education from Pittsburg State University. Her reappointment is for a term ending October 13, 2013.

Diana L. Willard, 49, has been named with three others from around the state to serve on the Missouri Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities. Williard, a care giver at A.O. Community Services, previously worked at the Joplin Regional Center. Her appointment is for a term ending on June 30, 2011.

Appointed to the Missouri HealthNet Oversight Committee is Renee A. Walker, 44, a physician at Otolaryngology of Joplin. Walker holds a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Drury University and doctor of osteopathic

medicine from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her appointment is for a term ending on October 30, 2010.

All are subject to Senate confirmation.
