| Through a unique partnership between The City of Joplin, Joplin Special Road District, The Industrial Development Authority of the city of Joplin, Inc. (JIDA), Jasper County and Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), a major highway improvement to the Crossroads Business & Industrial Park has begun, a project in part paid for with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars.
Located at Highway FF (32nd Street) and Jasper County Road 190 (Prigmore Avenue), the Crossroads Park is home to 10 businesses. The enhancements to the entrance and the interchange will allow for easier access to the park and improve safety. Future plans for the park include road extensions to access JIDA property that fronts I-44.
The cost of the project is approximately $5 million. MoDOT's portion of the project expense is $2.8 million. The project will be funded by a contribution of $1 million from the city of Joplin and $500,000 each from Jasper County and the Special Road District. The City’s portion is funded through the 3/8 cent Capital Improvements Sales Tax that citizens passed in the August, 2004 election.
The JIDA is contributing land for right-of-way at the intersection of CR 190 and Highway FF as well as additional funding for internal roads within the park. This funding also includes future road extensions to access JIDA property that fronts I-44. The Empire District Electric Company also granted land for widening the intersection and moved power lines at no additional charge.
