Missouri DED announces second Certified Site ktippin
Updated: 2010-02-10 11:40:30
SPRINGFIELD - The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) announced today (Feb. 10, 2010) that a Springfield location has been designated as the state's second Certified Site. Columbia, MO was the first selection.

Chosen by DED's Certified Site team, the site is meant to provide Springfield with a competitive advantage in attracting 21st century jobs. The 51-acre site, located within the Springfield city limits, is being marketed for heavy industrial business. The Springfield Partnership Industrial Center Site 12 has excellent access to multiple modes of transportation with its location adjacent to Interstate 44, rail service and the Springfield-Branson National Airport. It is also compatible with surrounding land uses, which includes industrial and airport uses to the north; an interstate highway and industrial uses to the east; and agricultural and low-density/semi-rural residential land uses a railroad to the south and west. The regulations set forth in the Zoning Ordinance and the protective covenants also help to ensure high-quality industrial development that has minimal impacts on its neighbors.

"Under the leadership of Gov. Nixon, we continue to work diligently to devise strategies for creating jobs and growing our economy," DED Director David Kerr said. "The Certified Site selection process, with its stringent technical review and validation of site resources and amenities, will ensure that these sites are competitively positioned to create hundreds of new jobs in their local areas which will positively impact our statewide economy."

A review team consisting of up to 10 economic development professionals, including utility and certified community/economic development practitioners, is responsible for reviewing and approving Certified Site Program applications. Certified sites must be at least 10 acres or more in size; be marketing primarily by the community and local economic development organization for business recruitment or business expansion; and contain at a minimum water, sewer, and electric infrastructure at the site.
