Updated: 2011-11-15 11:39:00
JEFFERSON CITY- Missouri's unemployment rate decreased in October, as employers added approximately 1,100 new jobs, according to data released today by the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED).

Missouri's unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent, down by two-tenths of a point from the September figure, on a seasonally-adjusted basis. In comparison, the U.S. seasonally-adjusted rate for October 2011 stood at 9 percent.

Missouri nonfarm payroll employment increased in October to 2,651,800, as employers created 1,100 new jobs. Increases were led by gains in administrative and support services, private educational services, leisure and hospitality, and wholesale trade.
