| The City of Joplin is pleased to announce the naming of Tim Nyander as public works community service manager. Nyander previously served the city as superintendent of the wastewater treatment plants (WWTP).
In his new role he will be responsible for day to day operations for numerous divisions of the public works department, including code enforcement, fleet maintenance, public transportation, wastewater collection and treatment, and solid waste. He also will work closely with agencies and contractors working for the City in various projects.
Nyander began employment in June 1984 as a shift operator at the Shoal Creek WWTP. He was promoted to pretreatment inspector in 1988, and to superintendent of wastewater treatment in 1999. He supervised the operation of Joplin’s two treatment facilities and 15 lift stations in this position.
He attended the Crowder College Water and Wastewater School in Neosho, holds a Bachelor of Science in management from Missouri Southern State University-Joplin, and a master's degree in public administration from Missouri State University in Springfield.
Nyander is a native of Southwest City, MO. He currently resides in Joplin with his wife, Beckie, of 23 years. They have a 20-year old son.
