| The entire family can participate in the 2008 summer reading program at the Joplin Public Library through participation in three reading clubs. The clubs are divided by age groups and allow readers to enjoy content that is appropriate for their interests and maturity.
The Children’s Club encourages children, from the age of preschool through fifth grade, to “Catch the Reading Bug!” Children may discover the amazing world of insects through programs, prizes, story times and more. Of course, they still may choose any topic from the thousands of children’s books that the library offers.
The teen club focuses on transformations in the world. “Metamorphosis @ Your Library” is geared towards students who will be going into grades 6-12 and features weekly programs with many "cool" prizes.
Not to be left out, the adult club has a message for all adults: “Pollinate Your Mind at the Joplin Public Library.” This club also will offer programs and prizes, culminating with the Library’s Second Annual After-Hours Murder Mystery.
Registration for all summer reading clubs begins on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. Children and teens who register will receive a complementary one-way ride on the Sunshine Lamp Trolley. All activities are free of charge and anyone participating in the children’s club or teen club is eligible to receive a free library card to use for the duration of the program.
