Adolfo Castillo, 59, of Joplin, has been appointed by Governor Matt Blunt to the Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR) for the seventh district. Castillo is a board member of the Hispanic Republicans of Missouri. He works with local politicians to promote Hispanic involvement in government issues.
A division of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, the commission is a state agency charged with enforcing Chapter 213, RSMo, which is titled the Missouri Human Rights Act. The basic powers and duties of the MCHR are to prevent and eliminate discrimination. The MCHR is only authorized to investigate complaints in employment, public accommodations and housing and only if the reason for the alleged discrimination is on account of the that person's protected status of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, disability, age (40 - 69) (in employment only) and familial status-families with children under the age of 18 (in housing only).
Castillo holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational education from Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio, TX. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on April 1, 2006. Go Back |
