| The White House Project recently released the results of an 8-month study of guest appearances by women on the Sunday political talk shows. Their findings reveal that women represent only 14% of guests, up from 11% in 2001. Shows that have been tracked since January 2000 include "Meet the Press" (NBC), "This Week" (ABC), "Face the Nation (CBS), "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer" (CNN), and "Fox News Sunday" (FOX)
Marie C. Wilson, president, speaking on behalf of the Project coordinators, says that women need to be brought to the table alongside men to create a broader spectrum for debate. These shows, she says, are a critical forum for our nation's political debates, that they tend to infulence the priorities of citizens across the country and are an important testing ground for would-be Presidents.
The group, teaming up with The Women's Funding Network and Fenton Communications, has launched SheSource, a new online resource database of woman experts in order to help close the gender gap in all media venues, including newspapers, television and radio. Currently women who are distinguished experts in their fields are divided into a dozen areas of expertise including education, law and crime, philantrophy, international issues and religion. Webpage viewers are encouraged to recommend additional credible, articulate and dynamic women, including themselves, who would be valuable additions to the database.
The White Houe Project is a nonpartisan not-for-profit organization, aiming to advance women’s leadership in all sectors, up to and including the U.S. presidency. It is run by a diverse board of directors. Go Back |
