| The 21st Annual Ride for Life sponsored by Cycle Connection Harley-Davidson/Buell will take place Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23, 2006. The highlight of the fund-raising event that will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be Trigger Gumm's attempt to jump his motorbike 320-ft. to break the current Guinness World Record. Gumm completed an outright long-distance ramp to dirt jump on his Honda CR500 of 277.5 ft. on May 14, 2005, in Queensland, Australia setting a new Guinness record. Since that time, he's been wanting to further the record by repeating the stunt in the U.S.
A section of Main St. from 4th to 7th streets in Joplin will be blocked from 7-11 p.m. on July 22 to allow space for live music provided by Big Smitty, food by the Rib Crib and Hardees and vendors of motorcycle paraphernalia.
"Motorcycles [riders] will cruise Main Street, park and mingle enjoying the beauty of these great machines!" said Nancy Hutson, motorcycle enthusiast and Cycle Connection owner.
Sunday's schedule
Registration for the event to be held on Sunday, July 23 will take place from 7-9:30 a.m. at the Cycle Connection, 5014 Hearnes Blvd., Joplin (just south of exit 7, I-44).
