Boil advisory updated to boil order in Joplin

Editor's note: Boil order has been lifted but water officials advise to run the tap for a few minutes to clear the line.

Missouri American Water Company has issued a boil order for an area one block west of Range Line Rd. to the state border and north from 50th St. to the airport. According to Missouri American Water Company the boil order is due to "increased turbidity due to recent flooding." The previous boil advisory has been updated.

Residents in the affected area will be under a boil order until further notice. Customers in the area listed above should bring their water to a rolling boil for 5 minutes before using for drinking or cooking. The boil order will be in effect until water quality samples confirm that the water is safe for consumption. Customers may call Missouri American Water’s 24-hour customer hotline at (866) 430-0820 for more information.

The City of Joplin’s Health Department has recommended the following be done:

A special set of recommendations has been issued for commercial establishments especially dealing with the use of ice making machines.
