Secretary of State Robin Carnahan stopped by the campus of Missouri Southern State University on September 10 after having given a talk to about 50 Jasper County Democrats at a dinner at the headquarters of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Joplin.
The College Democrats of America, MSSU chapter hosted the event in which Carnahan conducted a pep rally to engage students in her support. She is a contender for the US Senate seat to be vacated by Kit Bond in 2010.
While advanced publicity suggested that students should attend the talk to "learn where she stands," Carnahan spoke in general about how politicians should make a bi-partisan effort to solve issues rather than bicker among themselves. She also was concerned with motivating students to contribute to the welfare of their communities.
Young people, she said also would play a big role in her campaign. She admitted that the senatorial race would not be an easy one.
In order to get things jump started, she asked students to sign up on her webpage, Twitter or facebook, or to text "join" by phoning #76246 on their cellphones. Most students in the audience whipped out their cellphones and had no problem following her last suggestion. Go Back |
